MASARI - FRAGMENTS OF A CREATIVE RETREAT

DG - MASARI - Eine filmische Reflexion im Horizont von Mythos, Entropie und Zeit

Masari (Rhodes Island) – Fragments of a Creative Retreat | ENDLESS LOOP 08

A cinematic exploration at the crossroads of Myth, Entropy, and Time

In autumn 2024, I undertook a creative retreat on the Greek island of Rhodes, settling in the small, unassuming village of Masari. It marked the final step in a much longer journey (escape time) through Greece. In this quiet sanctuary, I found space to explore new ideas, revisit past work, and envision future possibilities. Among ruins and weathered facades, I captured the atmosphere of Masari—a place where time, myth, and entropy converge.

About the Film:

This video offers a contemplative journey through Masari in three scenes: the decay, the timeless streets, and an open horizon—all reflecting a personal dialogue with the past, present, and future.

Shot over the last two weeks of October 2024 with a Blackmagic BMPCC4K, I used a vintage Super Takumar f1.4 50mm (8 Elements Version) lens for most scenes, with wide-angle shots captured on a vintage Tokina 17mm f3.5 SL lens. A DJI Mini 3 Pro drone added aerial perspectives, while post-production was completed in DaVinci Resolve 19 Studio.

The Whispers of History:

The opening scene reveals the village in all its raw beauty, its weathered facades echoing the passage of time. Here, amidst the tranquility, fragments of inspiration gather, fostering new ideas and a space for self-discovery.

A Mirror to the Soul:

As the camera delves deeper into the heart of Masari, the ancient walls become a canvas for personal reflection. The echoes of forgotten stories and the weight of history resonate with the complexities of the inner self.

A Canvas for the Unknown:

Masari becomes a horizon of endless possibilities. The film concludes with a sense of openness, inviting the viewer to contemplate the uncharted territories of the future.

This is more than just a travelogue. It's a meditation on the power of place to spark creativity, the transformative process of revisiting the past, and the endless potential that lies ahead.

Masari - Fragments of a Creative Retreat ( ENG )

Scene 1 (View of the ruins, slow camera pan)

Masari – a whisper in the wind. The final stage of my journey. Here, in the stillness, I gather fragments of a new reality. A liminal space, a refuge for thoughts to take root and grow.

Scene 2 (Streets of Masari, close-up of aged facades)

Hidden treasures in decay. These walls, etched with history, mirror the entropies of change. They become a reflection of my own inner processes. Echoes of ancient tales, reminiscences of past memories – resonances of my life.

Scene 3 (Distant view, slightly blurred, transitioning into the distance)

Masari – a place of projection. A horizon of possibilities. Where does the path lead? Masari offers no answers. Yet, it opens a space – for the unexpected, the future, the unknown.

Echos alter Erzählungen, Reminiszenzen vergangener Erinnerungen – Resonanzen meines Lebens.

Szene 3 (Blick in die Ferne, leicht unscharf, Übergang in die Weite)

Masari - ein Ort der Projektion. Ein Horizont des Möglichen. Wo führt der Weg hin?Masari gibt keine Antworten. Doch es öffnet einen Raum – für das Ungeahnte, das Zukünftige, das Offene.

IDEAS

What is a creative retreat?

#CreativeRetreat #creative/retreat #creative/mind #creative/book #creative/gaze #creative/life #creative/work

A place to get away, get inspired, overcome some personal hurdles or just unwind with people who “get it”. The retreats are usually a mix of creativity, growth, education, inspiration, and relaxation.
